We have all done it… sat at our desk typing feverishly with a scowl on our face and a Diet Coke® within reach…hesitated about putting on that swimsuit…wondered what you really look like in those jeans. First it’s “I’ll get on the treadmill after work” then “maybe we can go walking after dinner” and ends with “do you know where the remote is?”
It happens, but it’s time for a change. We don’t want you to make a four week change or an “I need to fit into those pants by _______” change. We want to help you make a lifestyle change.
As trainers, we see every shape and size person there is. We hear about how someone on The Biggest Loser lost twelve pounds that week. Then we spend the next ten minutes explaining that what they are doing is not a normal result. The participants have chefs and personal trainers around the clock to monitor EVERYTHING they do. YOU do not have chefs and trainers every minute of the day. You have carpool, daycare, a boss, a few kids, rush hour traffic, and food from the drive-thru window. You have ten seconds to decide if you will make a healthy meal at home or dig through the coupon drawer to find the best deal on delivery pizza and pasta.
As parents, we watch our children (and grandchildren) go through an education system that is slowly diminishing the amount of physical activity our children require/need on a daily basis. The “budget” now mandates what our children eat and the amount of exercise they have time for. As parents, it is our responsibility as parents to make sure our children are healthy, and most importantly, happy.
It happens, but it’s time for a change.
